What it is
Confirm fitness for the job before the first shift
A pre-placement physical documents a candidate’s baseline health and confirms they can meet the physical demands of a specific position. Done after a conditional offer, it is ADA-compliant and gives you a defensible record if a claim arises later.
We build the protocol around your job descriptions — lifting, climbing, driving, respirator use — and can add drug screening, audiograms, vision, or vaccines in the same visit.
After the exam
A clear answer for the hiring manager
The employer receives a fitness determination, not the medical record. The candidate receives a copy of their results and any recommended follow-up.
- Fit for duty
- Candidate meets the essential functions of the position as described.
- Fit with restrictions
- Specific, actionable limits — for example, no lifting over 40 lb — for HR to evaluate accommodation.
- Not fit
- Rare; explained to the candidate with any documentation that could change the result.
- Baseline on file
- Findings are kept so future work injuries can be compared against pre-hire status.
For employers
Set a protocol once, use it for every hire
We map exams to each of your job classes, direct-bill the account, and return results to HR the same day.
Common questions
Pre-placement physicals, answered
Answers from our front desk and examiners. General information, not medical or legal advice.
Can we require this before extending an offer?
No. Under the ADA, medical exams may only be required after a conditional offer of employment and must be applied to everyone in the same job category. General information, not legal advice.
What does the employer see?
A fitness determination — fit, fit with restrictions, or not fit — and any restrictions. Diagnoses and medical detail stay with the clinic.
Can drug testing be included?
Yes. Urine or hair drug screens, breath alcohol, and DOT-regulated collections can all run in the same visit.
How quickly do we get results?
Physical exam results the same business day. Lab-based drug screens typically take 24–72 hours.
