Drug and alcohol testing built for Colorado workplaces
Pre-employment, DOT, post-incident, and random testing at four Denver-metro clinics or at your site. Same-day negatives, MRO-verified positives, and a protocol written around your policy, not a menu.
Watch: your testing options, explainedPanels, THC, alcohol, and results in 2 minutesWhat we offer
Four services, one employer account
Set your protocol once. Every clinic pulls the right panel for the reason you send someone in, and results go to the contact you designate.
- Hiring
Pre-Employment Drug Test
Rapid 4-, 5-, 9-, or 10-panel urine screens for non-DOT new hires. Any panel can run THC-free.
Negatives the same day - Regulated drivers
DOT Drug Testing
Certified collectors, HHS-certified labs, and MRO review under 49 CFR Part 40. Clearinghouse reporting for CDL drivers.
All six test reasons - At your site
Post-Incident On-Site
A collector comes to your jobsite after an accident or for random and reasonable-suspicion events, breath alcohol included.

Which situations trigger a test, which panel each uses, whether THC is included, and how alcohol is handled.

Start with the situation
The reason for the test decides the panel, where it happens, and how fast the result comes back. Pick the one that fits.

Pre-employment drug test, usually THC-free
Most Colorado employers hire on a 4-panel without THC and keep larger panels for incidents. The candidate walks in with ID and your authorization; a negative is reported the same day.
- Panel
- 4-panel (THC-free) or 5-panel
- Where
- Any ICA clinic, walk-in
- Negative result
- Same day
- Non-negative
- 3–10 business days, MRO-verified
Recommended
DOT testing under 49 CFR Part 40
Federal rules set the panel, the lab, and the reporting path; your policy does not apply. We handle pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable-suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up collections.
- Panel
- Federal 5-panel, THC required
- Where
- Any ICA clinic
- Negative result
- 1–2 business days (lab-based)
- Reporting
- MRO to your DER; Clearinghouse for CDL
Recommended
Post-incident test, in clinic or at your site
Timing matters: alcohol should be tested within 2 hours and drugs within 32. Send the employee to the nearest clinic, or have a collector come to the site so the rest of the crew keeps working.
- Panel
- 10-panel + breath alcohol (typical)
- Where
- Nearest clinic or on-site collection
- Alcohol result
- On the spot
- Drug result
- Same-day negative; 3–10 days if confirmed
Recommended
Random testing under your employer account
We manage the selection pool and notify your contact; employees walk in the same day they are selected. Non-DOT programs use the panel you set; DOT pools follow federal rates.
- Panel
- Your protocol (often 5-panel)
- Where
- Any ICA clinic, or on-site for groups
- Selection
- Managed by ICA or your TPA
- Results
- To your designated contact only
Recommended
A protocol conversation, about 30 minutes
Four decisions define most programs: which reasons trigger a test, which panel each uses, whether THC is included, and how alcohol is handled. Draft it online or bring your current policy and we will review it.
- Start with
- Your job titles and any DOT headcount
- Decide
- Reasons, panels, THC, alcohol
- Outcome
- One protocol applied at every clinic
- Cost
- No charge for the consultation
How it works
From authorization to verified result
Chain of custody at every step. Employers receive a result, never a medical record.
Employer authorizes
HR or a supervisor sends the employee with the reason for test. The clinic pulls the matching panel from your protocol.
Collection
ID check, secured restroom, temperature check, and a sealed chain-of-custody form signed by the donor. Breath alcohol is final on the spot.
Rapid screen
Instant-cup immunoassay read in clinic. All negative: reported to your contact today. DOT specimens go straight to the lab.
Confirmation and MRO
Any non-negative is confirmed at a certified lab and reviewed by a Medical Review Officer, who verifies prescriptions with the employee first.
What we test for
Panels from 4 to 10 substances, THC optional
Every panel shares a core of methamphetamine, opiates, cocaine, and PCP. Larger panels add amphetamines, prescription sedatives, oxycodone, and methadone. Breath alcohol is a separate evidential test with a result on the spot.
Since Colorado legalized marijuana, many employers hire on a THC-free panel and reserve THC for safety-sensitive roles and incidents. DOT drivers are the exception: THC is always required.
4-panel (THC-free)
Methamphetamine, opiates, cocaine, PCP. The most common hiring panel for Colorado employers.
5-panel
Adds THC. Matches the traditional federal five; required composition for DOT drivers.
9-panel
Adds amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and oxycodone.
10-panel
9-panel plus methadone. Typical for post-accident and reasonable-suspicion protocols.
Breath alcohol
Evidential breath test, result on the spot. Add to any panel or run alone.
A urine screen shows that a substance was used at some point, not that someone is impaired at work. Prescriptions are verified confidentially by the MRO before any result reaches the employer.
For employers
Set up an account and send people in the same week
We record each reason for test, its panel, THC choice, and alcohol rule under your account. Direct billing, a single results contact, and random-pool or consortium management when you need it.
Results
Who sees what, and when
A non-negative rapid screen is never reported as a positive until a certified lab confirms it and the Medical Review Officer has spoken with the employee.
Employee
At collection and from the MRO
- Copy of the chain-of-custody form
- A call from the MRO before any non-negative is verified
- Chance to document a valid prescription
Employer
Same day for negatives
- Negative / positive / refusal / cancelled
- Panel and reason for test on the report
- No prescription or diagnosis detail
Regulator
DOT programs only
- Verified positives and refusals for CDL drivers to the FMCSA Clearinghouse
- Reported by the MRO and employer within 2 business days
- Non-DOT results are never reported outside your company
Common questions
Drug and alcohol testing, answered
Answers from our collectors and clinicians. General information, not medical or legal advice.
Do employees need an appointment?
No. Walk in Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m. at any of the four clinics. Post-accident and random tests must happen promptly, so send the employee as soon as they are notified. Booking guarantees a time if someone is between shifts or routes.
Can we test without THC?
Yes. Our 4-panel is the common THC-free hiring test, and THC can be removed from the 9- or 10-panel as well. The exception is DOT-regulated drivers, where THC is required by federal rule.
How fast are results?
When every substance screens negative on the rapid cup, the employer has the result the same day. A non-negative goes to a certified lab for confirmation and MRO review, which typically takes 3–10 business days. DOT tests skip the rapid step: negatives in 1–2 business days.
What is the difference between DOT and non-DOT testing?
DOT-regulated employees are tested under 49 CFR Part 40: a fixed federal 5-panel with THC, lab-based, MRO-verified, with results reported to your Designated Employer Representative. Everyone else follows the protocol you set. Most employers with a mixed workforce run both under one account.
Can you collect at our jobsite?
Yes. Post-incident on-site collection is available for employer accounts, including breath alcohol, and we can collect random or group events on-site for larger crews.
What does the employer actually receive?
A result, not a medical record: negative, positive, refusal, or cancelled, with the panel and reason for test. Prescriptions are verified confidentially by the MRO and never appear on the report.
Do we have to have a written policy?
Colorado does not mandate one for private non-DOT employers, but a written policy protects you in disputes and is required by many insurers and contracts. We will review a draft with you at no charge. General information, not legal advice.
